An apprenticeship changed my life

This article is about a benificiary who joined an apprenticeship programme run by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Ghadaq Organization for Development that changed their life and help them transition from unemployment to an entrepreneur in green energy.

  • 1,822 vulnerable youths, 41 per cent of whom are women, have participated in apprenticeships in 11 priority occupations through the Supporting Resilient Livelihoods and Food Security in Yemen - Joint Programme (ERRY II).
  • The programme is implemented by the ILO, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Programme (WFP), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The project seeks to boost resilience, livelihoods, food security, and climate adaptation in Yemen.
  • The European Union (EU) and Sweden have contributed new funding totalling US$ 49.37 million for the third phase of the project, which covers a three-year period as of March 2022.
  • Apprenticeships will be discussed at the 110th International Labour Conference taking place from 27 May to 11 June, with a view to setting a new international labour standard.
