What is it?
The 6th edition of ILO’s Monitor on COVID-19 and the World of Work further revises the estimate for working hour losses globally to 495 million FTE jobs for the second quarter of 2020, and notes lower‑middle-income countries to be the hardest hit with an estimated decline in working hours of 23.3 per cent (240 million FTE jobs) in the second quarter of 2020.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Monitor draws attention to (i) data confirming higher levels of unemployment and inactivity, with inactivity increasing to a greater extent than unemployment, and (ii) revised projections indicating that working-hour losses in the final quarter of 2020 are expected to amount to 8.6 per cent, or 245 million FTE jobs.
