At least 26.8 Million persons with disabilities live in India. Studies show that only 23-26% of them have a regular income. While persons with disabilities constitute a valuable workforce, they still face much higher barriers to get employed than persons without disabilities.
Within India´s corporate sector, the Information Technology (IT) sector and the Information Technology Enable Services (ITES) has potential to create new job opportunities for persons with disabilities. While many low skilled jobs are lost due to digitalization, software engineers and employees with high level and basic IT skills are much needed. Some IT companies have already discovered persons with disabilities as potential talent pool and experience the chances of an inclusive work environment.
