Saksham project by Plan International & AkzoNobel

What is it?

"Saksham is challenging traditional gender stereotypes and discrimination, by sharing information with parents, communities, and employers about gender equality, equal opportunity, and economic empowerment of young girls." Plan International

“If I want to achieve my goals and move forward in my life and our society in India, I have to get out of the house,” says Charu Nigo.

Plan International Nederland helped Charu receive training in computer science through the Saksham program in partnership with AkzoNobel. She ended up landing a job with a multinational. Nearly half of Indian girls between the ages of 15 and 24 have no education and no job – and that was before COVID-19. It’s now even more important to make sure young people have access to decent employment and are empowered to fight gender norms.
